Probably one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. Ground beef with very little flavor or texture in tacos and burritos. Waitress only showed up to take order and bring drinks, no refills or any other gestures of good service. Only good things were the chicken in the flautas and decent salsa. Another customer was arguing with staff as to why their gift card wasn't working so you may want to be careful about gift cards there as well. Overall it was not a pleasant experience.

The fare here is exactly what you get from any comparable Mexican restaurant...not bad, but nothing spectacular or extraordinary. The restaurant was clean, the chips & salsa typical & the frozen margarita was frozen with salt on the rim, if requested. Service was normal.

The people were very nice but the food was mediocre. The chips were stale, the a/c didn't seem to be working at full capacity and the food took a while. The best thing about this place was their Mexican coke! I won't be coming back here but it was worth a try.

I am going to review this place before I even eat for one reason- the staff here has been rude rude rude from the minute we walked in the door. The waiter is nice enough but seriously we have been several very bad looks since we walked in the door. We changed our booth to a table since the booth was so small and boy oh boy they didn't like that. So anyway, would not come back. I don't care how the food is- service gets a big thumbs down.

This restaurant is awful, food was cold and no flavor, service was the worst that I have ever had. We talked to the Manager and he did not acknowledge that we had a problem.... Never will I spend a dime with this place..

This is a somewhat fast Mexican american restaurant. The servers are Mexican and understand some English. Their food is typically good, but not Fantastic. It has a great family atmosphere, which is a plus for kids. It is frustrating that they still have a smoking section. It is a big place, so you don't smell the smoke. It is cafeteria style seating and fairly clean.

El Saltillo has four locations...I'm at the one housing a strip mall sharing the same parking lot with the thrift store & Rouses. I got the#20, chicken/cheese fajita w/guacamole salad and was very pleased with the taste/portions. Passed on the margaritas/daquiris, etc. because, in my experience, it gets lost on the way to the glass! Anything in a BOTTLE is a better choice for alcoholic beverages here. The food tastes alot like it did in Houston, which is hard to find in south MS...recommend you try it if you haven't already!

It seems nowdays that you can't swing a dead cat on the coast without hitting a Mexican Restaurant. Although I have been to the other El Saltillo location in OS decades ago and the Cedar Lake location over a year ago I decided to give this location a try. This restaurant was nicely decorated and clean, since my partner smokes we sat in the bar area. The chips where fresh and hot and the salsa good although a little spicy. We settled on the special of two fajita dinners and a Margarita. I thought that there were miniscule amounts of beans and rice on our plates, my partner agreed. My partner ordered Steak and I ordered Chicken Fajitas. There was a fair amount of meat and quite tender the meats were seasoned very little and overwhelmed by the Ginormous amount of onions, peppers and tomato's on our plates. We ended up eating all our dinner minus the onions and peppers, something we rarely do and took no food home which we always do at our favorite Mexican Restaurant. Although the food was ok it wasnt great and small portions, what I did like was the drinks which were loaded with alcohol. In retrospect I'de return here to drink but not eat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
